Chic Wine Storage Ideas for Small Living Space

Read on to find out about a few of the best ways to create a wine storage area in a small space.

Chic Wine Storage Ideas for Small Living Space

Living in a small apartment or house is no reason to expand your wine collection. While space may be limited, there are plenty of ways to store and display your collection without having an entire room dedicated to it; here are a few of the best.

Wine Rack

The first option is a simple wine rack. More often than not, in a small space, you will have more wall space to work with than floor space, and because of this, a rack is typically the most affordable and easiest form of storage.

Another great thing about racks is that because they are so affordable, you can purchase several at once, and have an entire wall of wine after a couple of hours of DIY. They are perfect for displaying your favorite champagne, or bottle of Tamburlaine red wine

Under Your Island

If you have an open-sided kitchen island, this is the perfect opportunity to create a mini wine storage area. For an ultra-chic and stylish look, opt for simple, metal racks that fit perfectly into the space.

If you want a more rustic, Italian-style design, wooden racks give a more homely feeling, and will look like they have been plucked out of the Italian or French countryside themselves.

Built-In Wine Fridge

If you want a more modern and sleek option that utilizes the space underneath your island counter, you can opt for a built-in wine fridge. A fridge is ideal for keeping your wine cool, or keeping it at the right temperature if you are looking to age it.

Similarly, you can also install a refrigerated drawer, which has the same benefits, but the alternative shape may be better suited to your needs.

Cellar Under the Stairs

If you live in an apartment or small home with stairs, there is most likely space under the staircase that is currently used for general storage, or is simply going to waste. However, if it is a decently sized space, it could be perfectly suited to become a mini cellar.

While this will require time and money, it is the perfect opportunity to create a wine cellar that you can use to store your prized bottles.

Hanging Rack

If floor and wall space is limited, then look up to your ceiling. A hanging rack is another simple storage solution that only requires a strong ceiling or beam to drill into. Perfect for the kitchen, it can also have multiple uses.

You can hang one above a counter or your kitchen island, and then add hooks to the underside of it to hang your pans from. This is a brilliant space-saving option, and it utilizes a part of your kitchen you almost definitely aren’t using already.

Glass-Front Cabinet

Another piece of furniture that you most likely already own that can be converted for wine storage is glass-front cabinet. You can easily create a super-sophisticated storage solution with only a few racks.

The best part about this solution is that you can make it completely wine-focussed as you can display more expensive wines on their own shelf, have glasses stored with the wine, and other accessories.

Narrow Storage

A narrow storage solution almost combines a few methods mentioned already. You may find that you have a bottle-sized gap between your fridge and your counter, or a narrow, tall pull-out cabinet that is typically used for spices.

While the space can possibly only hold a few bottles of wine, it is a discreet and easy storage solution that uses a space you probably weren’t using for anything else.

Closet Conversion

Similar to creating a cellar under your staircase, a closet is another great space to turn into a wine storage area. This is an even better option if you have a closet that has a lot of vertical space, as opposed to one that is only slightly higher than head height.

You would need to change the doors and install the relevant hardware, but one closet could easily hold a few dozen bottles of wine, and even more if you add more vertical storage options.

Wine Cart

A wine cart is a chic and stylish option for storing wine that harkens back to the old days. Whether it be a beautifully made wooden cart or a drinks globe, you can store a few bottles of wine in one and have easy access to them.

What makes a wine cart great for small spaces is that you can easily move it to where you need it, or out the way. The cart can also double as an additional surface for storage when it is not in use.

Wine Drawer

Finally, you most likely have a large drawer or two in your home that is currently being used to store old batteries or obsolete phone chargers. However, an afternoon of effort and a few bits of hardware can transform them into an incredibly effective wine drawer.

You can install holding racks into them that will allow you to lie down a few bottles, or you can combine two drawers and create a deeper space that can also be used as a wine refrigerator.
